COLCHESTER United's youngsters are hoping to book their place in a national final today.

Liam Bailey's side will take on Sheffield United in their Professional Development League national play-off semi-final this afternoon.

The match takes place at Bramall Lane, with a 3pm kick-off.

If Colchester win the one-off match, they will progress to a final against either Charlton Athletic or Barnsley for the national title.

Colchester's under-18 game at the venue follows a day after Sheffield United's first team were beaten 2-1 by Nottingham Forest in their Championship play-off semi-final, on Saturday.

The U's youngsters have enjoyed a productive season, in the Professional Development League.

They finished second in the southern division with 12 wins, five draws and seven defeats from their 24 games.

Colchester also progressed to the FA Youth Cup fourth round this season before bowing out to Newcastle United, following a 3-2 defeat at St James' Park.

Sheffield United sealed the northern title, following an undefeated league season.

Colchester's under-18 game at Bramall Lane will be streamed live on the Sheffield United YouTube channel.
