A WOMAN has been named as the Greatest Loser of the Year by a Slimming World group...and she could not be happier.
Colchester’s Mary Aston has lost four and a half stone whilst being a member of the Wivenhoe Slimming World group.
Mary has gone from a size 26 to a size 16 in less than a year at the group.
Previously, pain was part of her every day life but now she hopes to lose even more weight with her sights set on getting back in a canoe.
She is also now able to have a hysterectomy operation which her hospital consultant is much happier to perform.
Ms Aston said: “I feel fantastic and am loving receiving compliments from folk who haven’t seen me in ages.
“I also don’t hate mirrors quite as much as I did four and a half stone ago.
“It’s the changes on the inside that I’ve noticed the most, I’m healthier and happier both physically and mentally and, of course, this in turn has given my confidence a huge boost.
“I have so much more energy than previously and the constant creaks in my joints have gone.
“I can now actually get down to plant things in my garden instead of just issuing instructions to my long-suffering partner.”

Jennifer, who runs Slimming World groups at Wivenhoe, Monkwick and Parsons Heath in Colchester, said: “I feel so privileged to have played a part in Mary’s transformation.
“She has come so far, especially over the last year which has been so challenging for many of us.
“And while so much has changed, Mary’s determination and motivation has remained the same and I couldn’t be more proud of everything she has achieved.
“Given the links between Covid-19 and obesity and the impact the lockdown has had on our health and wellbeing, I know lots of people are worrying about their weight more than ever before.
“There’s a whole group of people waiting to support them every step of the way.”
