A SUPER slimmer is over the moon after shedding a whopping nine stone following concerns she could go blind.
Jodie Clark, from Colchester, was told she was losing her sight following an eye test.
Weighing in at 18 stone and 12 pounds, the diagnosis triggered a five-year journey to lose weight.
Jodie was convinced by her partner it was time to make a change and they both needed to do something about their weight.
She said: “I was told during an opticians’ appointment that my eyesight was deteriorating very quickly, there were early signs linked to diabetes identified and I was at risk of going blind.
“I had tried lots of different diets, regimens, fads etc but none of them stuck for more than a week or two.
“My partner had also gained a lot of weight after giving up smoking and losing his dad, and my mum was deteriorating with Alzheimer’s, so food was always a quick fix.
“We had a Slimming World leaflet put through the door, and my partner decided we were giving it a go, one last chance. I had told myself for years I was 13stone and 5lbs, I had been lying to myself for a long time.”
After starting in early 2016, Jodie lost an amazing nine stone and now weighs just eight stone and 12.5 pounds.
Despite her eyesight not getting better, Jodie has been able to stave off diabetes with the weight loss.
In April, Jodie was even able to run her first marathon.
She added: “My eyesight will not recover naturally. I now have to wear glasses at all times.
“I was considered pre-diabetic with high blood pressure, which has now been reversed and is normal.
“I am proud that I managed to prove myself wrong and that I stuck with it, even now when I’ve been a target member for a few years.
“I am so pleased I bucked up the courage to join Slimming World, it has completely turned my life around for the better. My only regret is that I didn’t take the plunge sooner.”
