COLCHESTER United interim head coach Wayne Brown is hoping a little extra recovery time will help Owura Edwards win his fitness battle to face Forest Green Rovers.

The 20-year-old winger left the Memorial Stadium with ice strapped to the upper part of his leg following his side's 1-0 defeat at Bristol Rovers.

Edwards, has made 29 appearances for Colchester since joining them on loan from Bristol City in January, completed the whole of the 90 minutes for Colchester.

But he missed training on Friday due to the injury and the U's are hoping he will be fit to face the league leaders tomorrow night, in the club's Game for Ukraine.

Brown said: “Owura didn’t train (on Friday) so we’ll see how he comes through his little niggle.

“With the game being on the Monday, it gives us a couple of days to try and get people right that maybe have little niggles and knocks."

Colchester will assess several other players ahead of their game against Forest Green, which is being screened live on Sky Sports.

Gazette:

Alan Judge (pictured above) has missed the U's last three games due to injury, while Tom Dallison and Emyr Huws have been sidelined for the last two.

Captain Tommy Smith is unavailable as he is currently on international duty with the New Zealand squad.

“Judgey’s getting there," said Brown.

“We’ll assess over the next couple of days on whether or not he’s there to the extent that he can be involved on Monday night.

“If he’s not involved on Monday, then we’ll try and get him right for the next game.

“It’s the same for Tom Dallison and Emyr Huws.

“They’re both progressing and getting better but we’ll have to assess whether or not Monday is too soon or we can get them involved."

Colchester are hoping for a bumper crowd for their home clash with Forest Green.

The U's are aiming to get as many spectators to the JobServe Community Stadium as possible, as they host a Game for Ukraine.

Brown has praised Colchester's supporters for their backing since he took interim charge, two months ago.

He said: “We’ve been crying out for fans to come and back us and the fans that do come along have been brilliant, since I’ve been back in the environment.

“They’ve been first class, not only at home but away as well.

“The Bristol Rovers following was magnificent.

“They got behind the lads and they were loud and they were proud and supporting the club.

“If we can get a few more to the home games as well, that can only be of benefit to the lads."
