WAYNE Brown has been praised for his attacking changes following Colchester United's 3-1 success at Scunthorpe United.

The U's were trailing at half-time at Glanford Park, after Joe Nuttall had fired the home team in front early on.

Colchester went in at the break behind but with the prospect of facing an Iron side reduced to ten men, following Luke Matheson's red card, ten minutes before the interval.

Brown made positive attacking alterations ten minutes into the second half, sending on John Akinde and Tyreik Wright for Luke Hannant and Myles Kenlock.

Colchester were back on level terms again six minutes later through Noah Chilvers' superb individual goal.

Owura Edwards then fired the U's ahead for the first time in the game, before Chilvers wrapped up the visitors' victory with 14 minutes remaining.

Speaking as a pundit on EFL on Quest on Saturday night, former Ipswich Town and Swindon Town striker Sam Parkin said: "Credit Wayne Brown - he made attacking changes early in the second half, with the numerical advantage.

"Noah Chilvers played in two different positions - he played centrally and played wide and he's been outstanding, in the last few games.

"It's eight points from the last four and that's certainly not relegation form."

Parkin also felt that referee Alan Young was correct in showing Matheson a second yellow card that led to the Scunthorpe defender being sent off.

The Iron right-back, who had earlier been cautioned for a foul on Luke Hannant, was booked again after a strong challenge on U's midfielder Brendan Wiredu.

Parkin added: "It was a poor challenge.

"It's late and it was costly."

Colchester now lie eight points above the League Two relegation zone, following their victory at Scunthorpe.

The U's travel to play in-form Bristol Rovers tomorrow night, looking to extend their unbeaten run to five matches.
