TWO-GOAL hero Noah Chilvers was delighted to play a starring role in Colchester United's triumph at Scunthorpe United.

But the talented U's midfielder feels he has in the past performed even better than he did in his outstanding display, at Glanford Park.

Chilvers played a huge part in helping Colchester come from behind to claim a vital 3-1 win at bottom club Scunthorpe.

The 21-year-old scored twice in the second half to cap a fantastic all-round display.

But was it the best individual performance of Chilvers' career, to date?

"With the two goals, it's got to be up there," he said.

"I've probably played better in general play but the goals make it stand out.

"I'm really happy with it."

Chilvers' excellent solo goal on the hour - a fine solo run from midway inside his own half capped with a precise finish - cancelled out Joe Nuttall's opener.

And after Owura Edwards had put Colchester ahead soon after, Chilvers wrapped up the visitors' win with a close-range diving header, from Edwards' cross.

Gazette:

Chilvers said: "My first instinct for the first goal was to drive forward, then I'm looking for slide passes.

"But then I thought 'I'm in the middle of the goal and in a one-v-one situation'.

"I think I feinted to go inside, chopped it on to my left and then shot.

"To be honest, I wasn't thinking too much once I got into that situation of shooting.

"It was a case of forgetting about the run before and thinking 'now I'm in the box, I need to get my shot off'.

"I just tried to pass it in really, rather than leather it.

"For my second goal, Searsy (Freddie Sears) went through and I thought it would be 3-1.

"It was obviously a good save from their keeper but when it's come back in, it was a great cross from O (Owura Edwards) and I did the rest."

Gazette:

Colchester are now eight points above the League Two relegation zone, following their win at Scunthorpe.

The U's head to Bristol Rovers tomorrow night, looking to extend their unbeaten run to five matches.

"The goal before the game was to get back-to-back wins," added Chilvers, who has scored six goals this season.

"We made it hard work for ourselves like we have done throughout the season really.

"But it's brilliant to get the three points.

"We managed to keep fighting after being 1-0 down and we created countless opportunities, in the second half.

"At half-time, every individual knew they'd played ten to 20 per cent below what they can do.

"I knew that personally for myself; the thing that matters is the team winning but I want to be the man that drives us on..

"We all knew - and I knew personally - that the first half just wasn't good enough and we had to create something and be confident and get shots off.

"We didn't do enough of that in the first half and that's what I aimed to do, in the second half.

"Even at times in the second half when we were 3-1, we didn't really look after the game well enough like we should have.

"But the most important thing at this stage of the season with where we are against a team around us is the win.

"We've got the confidence now from two wins in a row to try and go and beat anyone."
