FORMER Colchester United defender John White has joined Wimborne Town on loan for the rest of the season.

White, who spent more than a decade at the U's before leaving in 2013, has joined the Southern League Premier South side from Southend United, for the remainder of the campaign.

The 35-year-old, who helped the U's secure a historic promotion to the Championship with his home town club under Phil Parkinson in the 2005-06 season, is Blues' longest-serving player having signed for them in 2013.

But the popular defender, who made more than 250 league and cup appearances for Colchester before leaving for Southend, has not featured for Kevin Maher’s side since Boxing Day.

Wimborne boss James Stokoe told the club’s website: “I’m really pleased to bring someone of John’s experience in on loan, he’s a great professional and will help our young squad out.

"We thank Southend for their support in getting the deal done and look forward to seeing him involved on Saturday.”

Wimborne are currently bottom of the table, with 15 points from 31 games so far this season.
