COLCHESTER United defender Tom Dallison has been rewarded for his impressive display in his side's 1-0 victory over Port Vale.

The centre-back capped an excellent performance by heading his side's crucial winning goal in the win over Vale, at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Dallison headed in for the U's in the 85th minute, to score what proved to be the winner in the League Two clash.

And his individual contribution to his side's win has been acknowledged after he was named in the Sky Bet League Two Team of the Week, powered by @WhoScored ratings.

Dallison's goal against Colchester was his first for the club.

It was also the former Crawley Town defender's first goal for more than a year, in all competitions.

Dallison also played his part in helping Colchester keep their first clean sheet in seven matches.

It helped the U's move five points above the League Two relegation zone and interim head coach Wayne Brown was pleased to see his side shut out their opponents.

Brown said: β€œIt’s important to win games of football and when you concede two goals like we did against Carlisle and Leyton Orient, mentally that can be draining not just as a defender but all over the pitch.

β€œTo dig in like we did, to nullify them and stop them creating any real clearcut chances is testament to not just the back four but anybody who was on the pitch that put a shift in."
