CROWD entertainer Owura Edwards is eager to bring the smiles back to the JobServe Community Stadium.

The skilful 20-year-old winger has caught the eye for Colchester United with his exciting attacking play.

Edwards was the sponsors' man of the match for the U's following a dazzling display against Oldham Athletic.

And the on-loan Bristol City attacker is hoping to add goals and assists to those performances, with Leyton Orient's defence now in his sights tomorrow night.

Edwards said: "It's just how I've always played my football - I want to entertain the fans and make the crowd enjoy themselves.

"But most importantly, I am a footballer and I need to keep developing with goals and assists.

"Playing well can only do so much but I need to tune in my end product, which I'll keep working towards and they'll come.

"As an attacker, you're always judged on goals and assists.

"A wise man said to me once that if I get them up, I'll be in the Premier League.

"I'll just keep working every day and it will click soon."

Gazette:

Edwards has started Colchester's last four games, under interim head coach Wayne Brown.

He will be hoping to keep his place in the U's starting line-up for their home clash with Leyton Orient, tomorrow night.

It is another pivotal match for Colchester, who lie two points above the League Two relegation zone and a point below the O's.

"It's normal (for the fans) to have those thoughts but our squad is far too good to be relegated," said Edwards, who has made nine appearances for the U's so far since joining them in January.

"We've got too many quality players to get relegated and there are plenty of points to play for.

"We'll get to where we need to be.

"We need to keep working as a team to keep scoring goals.

"We need to take that second-half performance (against Oldham) into the next game and carry it into the Leyton Orient game.

"Every game is a big game and you have to aim to win and focus on your own individual performance.

Gazette:

"I've come here to help Colchester United really push on.

"I like this football club, I like the way it's set up, the stadium, the fans, everything.

"I'm just here to give it my everything and I'll keep on giving my all until the last minute."

Edwards was an impressive performer in Colchester's 1-1 draw with Oldham Athletic, last weekend.

Noah Chilvers' equaliser rescued a point for the U's, after Davis Keillor-Dunn had given the Latics a first-half lead.

Edwards said: "We've been in that situation before and the most important thing is to stay in the game.

"We didn't play badly in the first half; we created chances.

"And in the second half, we kept trying to break them down and create chances and it ended up in the back of the net."

Gazette:

Edwards has made four appearances for Bristol City since joining Bristol City in the summer of 2019.

He made his first-team debut for the Robins against Millwall in January, 2021.

"My aim is to get into the Bristol City first team," added the former Exeter City loanee.

"I was with them in pre-season, hoping that I'd be in the 24-man squad this season.

"I've been out on loan at Exeter and now here and everything happens for a reason.

"I'll keep learning; I'll never give up and I'll keep going."
