OLDHAM Athletic manager John Sheridan admits he did not enjoy watching the second half of his side's game at Colchester United.

The Latics went in at half-time in control of the basement battle, after Davis Keillor-Dunn had given them a first-half lead at the JobServe Community Stadium.

However, Colchester improved in the second half and rescued a point thanks to Noah Chilvers' deflected strike, soon after half-time.

The result saw Oldham drop into the League Two relegation zone following Carlisle United's win at Leyton Orient, while the U's are two points above the bottom two.

Sheridan said: “We got ourselves in a good position after getting the goal in the first half and it felt comfortable as well in the first half.

"We're doing well with set plays and scoring goals - we're a threat.

"It was a great ball in and skipp (Carl Piergianni) does what he's good at, attacks the ball and Davo (Davis Keillor-Dunn) has a little tap in.

“We should have gone on and won the game.

“We had a great chance with H (Hallam Hope) to make it 2-0 and we were quite comfortable going in 1-0 at the break.

“We were in a winning position but we were really poor in the second half.

Gazette:

“I didn’t enjoy watching the game in the second half and I thought we were scrappy.

“We didn’t use the ball the way we should have and there were too many long balls, for my liking and just doing the basics.

“But we’re going back with something.

“We were probably fortunate in the second half, because they looked like the team who were on the front foot a lot more and we were creating our own problems.

“But we should be controlling the game a lot better.

"After the first half, we should have gone on into the second half really believing that we could win the game and I don't think we did.

"I'm not being hard but I thought Colchester were the better team, in the second half.

"Their goal was very fortunate as it took a deflection and went in.

Gazette:

"They've had one or two chances and we defended when we had to defend and got blocks.

"When you're in a good position and you know the importance of trying to get three points, I didn't think we controlled it and we allowed Colchester to be on the front foot.

"We had a long journey and the trip wasn't good but that's no excuse.

"The fans came a long way to support us and we're going home with something."

Gazette:

Oldham are now six games unbeaten in League Two and visit Crawley Town, on Tuesday night.

Sheridan added: "We got a point and we get closer to one or two teams.

"I've seen the table and it's very tight.

"It's going to be a long haul but we're capable of doing it."
