WAYNE Brown insists Colchester United’s focus is firmly on their trip to play Northampton Town this weekend – and not their forthcoming run of home games.

The U’s return to action on Saturday when they travel to take on the high-flying Cobblers at Sixfields, for a 2pm kick-off.

Both clubs are looking for points for different reasons, with Colchester aiming to pull further away from the League Two relegation zone and Northampton eager to boost their automatic promotion hopes.

The U’s have a sequence of four successive games at the JobServe Community Stadium, after this weekend.

But U’s interim head coach Brown says all of their attention is currently on their first trip to play Northampton for more than three years – and trying to pick up a vital win.

Brown said: “We want to win every game, whether it’s home or away.

“The next game is at Northampton and we want to win it – the away form has been good.

“We’ll then address the next games after that, when they come along.

“But the most important thing now is Saturday.”

Gazette:

Colchester head into the match at Northampton on the back of a 2-2 draw against Carlisle United, last weekend.

The U’s looked like they were heading for a precious win after goals from skipper Tommy Smith and substitute Tyreik Wright cancelled out Omari Patrick’s opener.

But the Cumbrians fought back and salvaged a point through Tobi Sho-Silva’s late equaliser.

Brown said: “It was another point on the board and although it felt like a defeat afterwards after being 2-1 up in the final stages of the match, we didn’t lose the game.

“There’s plenty to build on.

“It’s one defeat in six and we can take so many positives out of the game in terms of the areas we got into and the chances that we had.

“There’s loads to build on and loads to work with and we’re doing that, this week."

Brown believes bagging a first Colchester goal will be a big boost for Wright.

The on-loan Aston Villa winger came off the bench to score the U’s second goal against Carlisle, in his third appearance for the club since joining them in last month’s transfer window.

Brown added: “Ty has come in from a big club looking to impress and looking to get minutes and goals.

“It’ll be great for him and his confidence and obviously it’s great for us as well.

“It’s given us a little bit more strength in depth and that’s why we brought him in.”
