EMYR Huws has found himself in at the deep end at Colchester United.

But the midfielder has taken to life at the U's like a duck to water.

Having gone more than a year without playing a competitive game, Huws has just played four matches in the space of 14 days for his new club.

But rather than be daunted by such an intense period on his return to action, the former Manchester City and Ipswich Town midfielder has instead embraced it.

Huws has completed the entire match in each of the four matches he has played.

Indeed, the 28-year-old's dramatic stoppage-time equaliser against Swindon Town last weekend was proof of his stamina.

“I’m really enjoying it," said Huws, who joined Colchester on a deal until the end of the season, last month.

“I had a bit of a break but I put the work in and I felt like it was time to get back playing again.

“I’m really happy to be doing it and really happy playing for Colchester.

“It’s not been that hard returning to playing – I’ve looked after myself, so I was ready.

“Playing Saturday-Tuesday is where you get your fitness and I’m enjoying it."

Gazette:

Prior to joining Colchester last month, Huws' last club was their Suffolk neighbours Ipswich.

He is one of a host of former Town players in the U's squad and played with the likes of Cole Skuse, Luke Chambers and Freddie Sears during his time at Portman Road.

“It’s nice to be playing with so many of my ex-team-mates," said Huws, who left Town at the end of last season following the expiry of his contract at Portman Road.

“They’re great lads, great pros and great players."

Huws has played his part in helping Colchester improve their fortunes under interim head coach, Wayne Brown.

Gazette:

The U's head to Leyton Orient on Saturday on the back of a three-match unbeaten run, a sequence that has lifted them eight points above the League Two relegation zone.

Huws said: “We’ve played some good teams but we feel we’re a good team and we don’t feel like a relegation-threatened team.

“People can paint whatever picture they want but inside the camp, it doesn’t feel like that at all.

“We’ve just got to keep looking at the games, getting results and I think we will.

“We’re building, working and training hard.

“It’s nice to get some momentum and energy.

“Everyone needs a bit of time but we’re all enjoying training.

“We’re focusing on the games and they’re coming thick and fast.

“We have to just keep going and on to the next one now."
