A man had to be cut free from his car following a crash on the A120 last night. 

Emergency services were called to the Marks Tey stretch of the road at about 3pm on Wednesday. 

Police, ambulance and fire crews all worked to deal with the incident. 

Essex Fire and Rescue service sent two fire engines from Colchester and one from Coggeshall. 

When they arrived they found a man was trapped in his car.

Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to free him by 3.45pm and he was left in the care of the ambulance service.

Crews also contained a diesel spill and stopped it entering a drain.

A spokesman for the ambulance service has confirmed a man was taken to hospital. 

She said: "We were called to the A120 at around 3pm today following reports of a collision.

"We sent an ambulance, ambulance officer vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

"Crews treated a male patient at the scene before transporting him by road to Colchester Hospital for further assessment and care."
