NEWPORT County manager James Rowberry admitted he was frustrated following his side's 1-1 draw at Colchester United.

The Exiles boss was disappointed his side did not take their chances after conceding a late equaliser to share the spoils, at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Dom Telford had given Newport the lead just before half-time but Freddie Sears rescued a point for the U's, late on.

Rowberry said: "I feel very frustrated, as you can probably tell - it's probably up there with the most frustrated I've been.

"We're disappointed not to get a win.

"I know they had a lot of possession in the second half to a degree, but they haven't threatened our goal.

"We've had so many chances again to win the game and we just weren't clinical enough.

"The mileage that we've put in had nothing to do with it, because we had enough chances.

"I made four changes to the starting line-up.

"I didn't make any changes in the game, because I didn't feel like we needed to and that was proven in the chances that we created.

"The travelling is what it is and we've not got 16 home games and 12 away games.

"Those home games will be important around March time for us to move forward.

"We've just had two draws on the road and I think that's 11 points out of 18 - that's averaging over 1.8 something points a game which I'd have taken at the start, had you asked me that.

"We'll reflect and we can move forward now, because we've got two home games coming up against Sutton and Port Vale."

Sears equalised when he lifted the ball past Newport goalkeeper Joe Day, who had advanced out of his goal in pursuit of the ball.

But Rowberry insisted he would not be critical of any of his players, after the draw.

He said: "I'm not going to criticise players in the press - that's not going to be me.

"I made a commitment to myself and the players that I'd never do that.

"It's a collective win, a collective draw, a collective loss.

"I'll stick to that in my mind."

Newport's Telford, who is League Two's leading scorer, hit his 14th goal of the season when he netted a fine goal against Colchester.

Rowberry added: "It was a terrific goal by Dom and he also hit the post in the second half.

"Dom has been terrific so fair play to him.

"He's done smashing and it's a great finish.

"It was great play by James Clarke to lock into the lad who had the ball and win it, so fair play to him as well."
