FORMER Colchester United striker Aramide Oteh has signed for their League Two rivals, Salford City.

And the former QPR youngster could be set to play against the U's when they face Salford at the JobServe Community Stadium, next weekend.

Oteh has signed a short-term deal with the Ammies until January and made his debut for them as a substitute in their 2-2 draw with Northampton Town yesterday.

Oteh told the Salford website: “I’m feeling very happy and very blessed for the opportunity, and I’m raring to go! I haven’t played for a while now so I’m itching to get going.

“I played for the Gaffer (Gary Bowyer) at Bradford where I feel he got the best out of me, he gave me the confidence and I just want to repay him.

“He’s just said they play good football, he’s worked with me before so it was the relationship and the connection that we’ve had before that persuaded me, and I want to come here and work hard for the Club and for him.

“I’ve played in League Two for a couple of seasons now so I know what you need to do to ground out a result.

"What you can expect from me is goals, hard work, always committed so yeah, I can’t wait to start.”

Oteh, who was released by QPR in May, made 13 league appearances for the U's during his loan spell, last season.

The 23-year-old joined Colchester on loan from Rangers in January, having previously been on loan at the U's League Two rivals Stevenage earlier in the 2020-21 season.

The young striker, who scored the U's goal in their 2-1 home defeat against Exeter City in February, has also spent time on loan at Bradford and Walsall.

Salford boss Gary Bowyer told the club's website: “We’re delighted that we’ve been able to find someone that’s got the league experience that Aramide has, having been on loan at Walsall, Bradford and Colchester, to cover for recent injuries to our front line.

“Having worked with him before we know he’s a good finisher, he’s got a lot to prove to people and we look forward to working with him.”

Oteh had started his career with Spurs prior to joining QPR, in the summer of 2017.

The forward made four league appearances for Rangers after making his debut for them in a Championship game at Millwall in December, 2017.

He scored his first professional goal for Rangers in their 3-1 win at Burton Albion, the following month.

In total, he made 22 league and cup appearances for QPR, scoring twice.
