SUTTON United have this morning issued a further update following the postponement of their game at Colchester United, last weekend.

The U's home clash with the League Two new boys, which had been due to be played last Saturday, was called off last Friday night, due to positive Covid cases amongst the South London club's playing squad.

Sutton informed the league that due to the emergence of a number of positive Covid-19 cases in their squad, together with injuries and international call-up, that they were unable to fulfil the fixture.

The EFL will investigate the circumstances surrounding the postponement, with no new date announced for the fixture, which had been due to be played at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Sutton have now issue an update, stating that they have had no more additional Covid cases among their playing squad, since last week.

They have said they therefore are in a position to host Stevenage as planned on Saturday, in League Two along with their match against Hartlepool United, next Tuesday.

 

The statement read: 'We have been in contact with the EFL this afternoon following further Covid test results.

'The Club has moved to "Red" protocols at the training ground, and continues to monitor developments daily, in addition to the outlook for players currently unavailable through injury.

'There have been a small number of additional positive test outcomes, but no more affecting players.

'With the return from international duty, and potential prognosis of the injury situation, we have informed the league we are in a position to host both Stevenage and Hartlepool.

'There may be some small changes to how we manage the games but these are relatively small.

'There will likely be no ball boys or mascots, for instance. The Club is likely to decide to close off for spectator use the "tardis terrace" to ensure the two teams have separate exit/entry points to the pitch and don't crowd space in the tunnel etc.

'Tickets for the Stevenage game are on sale online here and details regarding tickets for the Hartlepool game will appear tomorrow (Tuesday).

'Could we take this opportunity to remind all spectators of Covid protocols such that anyone displaying symptoms, or in receipt of a positive Covid test, must not attend any fixture.'
