TOMMY Jacobs is hoping victory at the Circus Tavern next month will help pave the way for him to contest a big title fight in his home town Colchester.

The 33-year-old middleweight is preparing to take on Ghana's Theophilus Tetteh in Purfleet, on September 18.

Jacobs is feeling in confident mood, following his recent victory over the tough Kevin McCauley.

And the professional boxer knows that success against Tetteh can open doors for him to stage more big fights.

Jacobs said: "I had a meeting with my manager over the weekend and he has confirmed that if I can get to 6-0 by December then he is going to be putting on a big show in Colchester and we should be contesting a title.

"I know I will remain undefeated, it’s just a case of making sure I can keep putting the bums on seats so I can keep getting the fights!

"I obviously have September 18 secured, there will be opportunity for me in October and November in London.

"I also have a chance to fight on October 3 in Bilbao and end of November in Malta - I just have to make sure I keep selling enough tickets on the home shows to enable me to fight.

"I’m feeling good for my next fight.

"Training didn’t really stop - I've had about ten days where I couldn’t do any sparring etc while we let a cut I got from a clash of heads heal but other then that, we haven’t stopped."

Jacobs says he is looking to make a statement against Tetteh, next month.

The former Harwich School pupil was left frustrated after his scheduled bout against the Ghanean was postponed at short notice, last month.

"He’s a very good operator has won various titles and has challenged for the WBO intercontinental title which is one below the world title," said Jacobs, who runs Willie’s amateur boxing club on the Whitehall Industrial Estate, in Colchester.

"He has a winning record with a lot of KOs, he has only been stopped inside the distance three times by world class people and I fully intend to beat him inside the distance to throw my name in the mix and make a bit of a statement.

"I’m looking forward to boxing at the Circus Tavern, it’s their first ever professional show there.

"I’ve been there numerous times to watch friends box on the unlicensed but extremely happy to be part of their first-ever home show.

"I'm hoping I can take a good crowd down there as it’s still in Essex.

"The disappointment of the show being postponed for a week really messed things up for me, as much as I try and say it didn’t it did.

"The anti climax of making weight, feeling ready to go, to then having to wait a week, change of opponent, change of amount of rounds etc.

"The worst part was I had to refund £3k worth of tickets to people that couldn’t make seven days later and running around doing that is the last thing you want to do come fight week."
