THE Football Association are to investigate the pitch invasion that took place following Colchester United's win at Oldham Athletic, at the weekend.

A group of Latics fans invaded the Boundary Park pitch to protest at the running of the club, after the U's wrapped a 2-1 victory in the League Two fixture.

Goals from Freddie Sears and Noah Chilvers sealed Colchester's victory, despite Dylan Bahamboula's consolation goal.

The result was Oldham's fourth straight defeat in the league with just two goals scored, leaving them bottom of the table.

Chants of "We want Abdallah out" were aimed at the directors' box, with fans making their feelings known about the ownership of the Latics.

Oldham boss Keith Curle says he can understand the fans' frustrations.

He told the Oldham Times: "I understand everybody's frustration but that's what I'm here to deal with.

"They shouldn't be on there and it will be something that the safety officers will address because of the headlines that it makes.

"I've seen it (the pitch invasion) and I fully understand the frustration, but what do you do?

"You work hard. We know we're down to the bare bones, but we're still fighting."

Oldham Athletic Supporters Federation's statement has called for "calm heads".

It read: "Many of us have felt for a long time now that the football club has been slipping further and further into danger due to poor recruitment, heavy-handed management and alienation of supporters.

"Yesterday's overflowing of emotions by some supporters was a direct result of that frustration and we want to assure you that we are planning our next moves in close liaison with [fellow supporter group] Push The Boundary and other supporter groups, starting on Monday."
