HAYDEN Mullins wants to see his Colchester United side race out of the blocks when they host Mansfield Town tonight.

The U’s are looking to secure their first win of the new season when they take on Nigel Clough’s side, who travel to the JobServe Community Stadium on the back of successive wins in League Two.

Colchester head into the Stags clash looking to bounce back following their 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Northampton Town, last Saturday.

And U’s head coach Mullins is keen to see a rapid start by his side, as they look to chalk up their first victory.

Mullins said: “We want to bounce back from the game at the weekend.

“We’re looking for a positive performance; we want to start fast and we want to take the game to Mansfield, so hopefully we can have a positive result.

“We need a fast start and we’ve analysed the game from the weekend – it’s something we want to put right.

“We have options and the boys who came on had a really positive impact on the game.

“It’s good options to have and we know we need to bounce back and that’s what we’ll be trying to do.

“It’ll be a tough game and most games in League Two are – they are competitive and quite fast-paced.

“There’s a lot of aerial balls to deal with but we’ll be up for it.”

Sylvester Jasper (pictured above) is likely to keep his place in Colchester’s starting line-up following his impressive display against Northampton.

The Fulham loanee has made an impressive impact after his switch the U’s, earlier this month.

“He’s a real bright spark,” said Mullins.

“It’s his first real loan and he’s had a real introduction into League Two football away at Carlisle when he came on for ten minutes and then in a tough game, against Northampton.

“They’re a big strong, physical side and it was about him trying to find areas where he could operate.

“When the ball dropped to him at times, he was the real bright spark in the first half and in the second half, he had a good opportunity to nick a goal for himself.”

Luke Hannant and Freddie Sears are both pushing for starts, after impressing off the bench against Northampton.

Mullins said: “In the second half, we looked a lot better.

“The two up top helped and Freddie looked really bright around Frank (Nouble) and Luke Hannant came on and looked really bright, too.

“There were loads of plus points, in the second half.”
