HAYDEN Mullins says Colchester United have several transfer targets they are currently looking at, ahead of this month’s deadline.

But the U's head coach says they are prepared to be patient in order to secure the signings they want.

Colchester are still looking to add to their squad ahead of the window closing on August 31.

Speaking at today's pre-match press call at Florence Park ahead of the U's home match against Northampton Town this weekend, Mullins said: “There’s a few different targets – we haven’t just got one, we’ve got a couple which is good.

“If one doesn’t come off, we’ve got other bits that we might be looking at.

“We’re not throwing all of our eggs into one basket but there’s a few different scenarios that might have to fall into place before things can happen.

“We’ll be patient and I’m happy with what we’ve got, so there’s no rush.”

“We’re getting closer.

“Conversations are still ongoing and we’re looking at different bits.

“The longer it goes on, different things get thrown up, so it’s about being patient.

“I’m happy with what I’ve got at the moment but we’re just a little bit shallow, in terms of our squad depth.

“We’re hopefully still looking to do a couple of bits of business but there’s no rush.”

Meanwhile, Mullins says Jake Turner has been brought in to provide extra competition in the goalkeeper department.

Turner was brought in on loan from Newcastle United last week and will battle for the U’s goalkeeper position with Shamal George and Dean Gerken, who has returned to training following his groin injury.

Mullins added: “Jake was always scheduled to come in.

“There was always a place in that area for another goalkeeper.

“We need cover and if anything happened to any of the goalkeepers, we need three so Jake was always going to come in.”

Colchester host Northampton Town in their first League Two home match of the season, on Saturday.

The U’s are advising spectators to buy in advance ahead of their first home game of the season.

While tickets can be purchased online on the day up until kick-off, it is much easier to do it at home rather than at the stadium on a phone.
