COLCHESTER United's game at Rochdale later this month has been moved to a Friday night.

The U's first visit to Spotland - now known as the Crown Oil Arena - since 2015 has been switched.

The League Two game was originally due to be played on Saturday August 28.

But it will has been brought forward and will now take place on Friday August 27, with a 7.45pm kick-off.

The game has been moved as it marks the 100th anniversary of Dale’s debut in the Football League.

On that date in 1921, eleven Dale players took to the field at Spotland against Accrington Stanley and thrilled around 7,000 fans with a 6-3 victory.

Rochdale have activities planned for the evening to celebrate the special anniversary, with details set to be announced in the coming weeks.

It will be Colchester's first visit to the venue since they were beaten 3-1 there in League One, on December 19, 2015.

Hayden Mullins' side also face Barrow away on a Friday night next month (September 10).

The U's also make a long away trip on a Friday night to visit Tranmere Rovers, on October 8.
