COLCHESTER Colts are celebrating after winning the Eastern Counties Under-18 Cup.
They beat Bury St Edmunds 43-21 in the final to lift the trophy and cap a very successful season for the squad.
Colchester produced a superb first-half of rugby.
They showed power and control from their forwards and speed combined with great running and flair from their backs.
Elliot Cryne settled the nerves with a penalty after three minutes. And that was shortly followed by a fantastic driving maul finished off with a try by Dan Hexley and converted by Cryne.
Colchester forwards then powered over the line twice more, with tries by Ben May and Ollie Prescott-Frost converted by Cryne.
This was followed by Reuben Shepherd’s fine try, with backs and forwards linking well.
But after Colchester had a player sin-binned, Bury rallied to score a converted try to go in at half-time trailing 31-7.
Ed Parry’s try, which was converted by Cryne, got Colchester off to a great start in the second half and a further try came from Harry Lee-Allan.
Bury showed their class and put Colchester under severe pressure, scoring two converted tries.
But a committed Colchester side were able to wrap up victory, in what was a great advert for colts rugby.
