AN impressive performance helped Peter Saye land Playgolf Colchester's Seniors first trophy of the year.

His round consisted of six pars and an eagle on the always difficult par-four 11th hole.

That also gave him the only recorded par three two, winning him a sleeve of balls.

Saye took 82 shots and with a handicap of 15, finished with an impressive 67.

Newcomer Shaun Evans, playing off 24 handicap, was second with a fine 92 (nett 68).

He finished ahead of Steve Loran, who scored gross 80 (70 nett) to take third place with the lowest gross of the day.

The competition was a non-qualifier after starting with all bunkers under repair.

But despite the wet conditions, the course played very well.

There was a good turnout in good course conditions for Playgolf Colchester's Ladies January stableford competition.

Division one was won by Paula Smith, with a score of 33 points.

Ann Longman was two points off the pace in second, with Lucy Sadler just one point adrift in third.

Division two was more closely contested, with countback required to separate first, second and third places.

Shirley Birkin took the top spot from Janet Blackmore, after both players recorded 27 points.

Emma Rowe was third ahead of Maureen Dale, after both players finished just one point adrift of the leaders on 26 points.
