ALAN Sharrocks rounded off his golfing year by winning Colchester Golf Club's McLean Putter.

Sharrocks triumphed in the competition, played for by the top eight players from the Club Championship after seeing off opponent John Blackmore in the final.

After an eagle on the second and then slipping in birdies at the sixth and seventh, Sharrocks was two-up.

Blackmore was having none of it though and birdied the ninth and tenth, to square the match.

He went one down on the 12th and made a superb up and down from the greenside bunker on the 15th for a half, to stay in the match.

Halving the 16th, Sharrocks made an unlikely 20-foot putt on the 17th to stay one up.

And on the 18th, Blackmore’s birdie putt slid by the hole to secure Sharrocks the match.

The McLean Putter was made by Sid Parmenter, who was Colchester GC's professional from 1914 to 1964.

Fiona Prentice, playing off 20 handicap, won Colchester GC's ladies' EGU Medal which was well-contested with 56 cards being returned.

She won after a countback from Sheila Dornan (27), after both players returned nett 74s.

Four players returned the next best score of 76 nett with Annie Johnston (13) taking third on countback and Judith Robertson (13), Maureen Devenish (16) and Heather Dennis (20) claiming the minor places.

Once again the ladies had a good turn out for this late autumn competition with 56 cards being returned.

Colchester GC held its Junior Open competition during half term week, with 24 clubs from Essex and Suffolk represented.

The best gross score of the day came from Colchester’s Josh Coleman, who returned a 68.
