COLCHESTER Harriers sprint duo Rebecca Jeggo and Charlie Dobson impressed on their debuts as Shaftesbury Barnet second claim members in the Southern Region of the UK Youth Development League.

Shaftesbury compete in the premier division and the national league includes some of the best athletics clubs in the country including Harrow AC and Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow.

On an extremely cold day, both athletes rose to the challenge and put in some excellent performances.

Dobson was first up in the 100 metres, his opening outdoor race of the season.

He ran strongly to claim first place as B string but claimed the fastest time of the day as well as a new personal best (PB) of 10.60 seconds.

Competing in the A string, Jeggo off to a flying start and held her own to the finish line, dipping below 12 seconds for the first time.

She clocked a new PB of 11.97s which prior to ratification places her second in the under-20 age group, in the whole country.

Next up was Dobson’s favoured distance, the 200m.

After some strong indoor performances, it was going to be interesting to see how he transferred to outdoors.

He did not disappoint, taking the lead after just a few metres and confidently winning the race a whole second ahead of second place.

He claimed a massive PB and the world Junior standard with a time of 20.74s, along with potentially the YDL U20 League record from 2014.

In her 200m, Jeggo proved her class again despite facing tough competition from Blackheath and Bromley.

She stayed calm and eased past in the last quarter of the race to not only take the win but also claim another PB (24.74s).

The duo also represented the club in the 4x100m relays - Jeggo's team finished third while Dobson's team won their race in a time of 43.95s.
