COLCHESTER and Tendring Athletic Club's youngsters were in good form at the Essex Cross County League event at Hylands Park, Chelmsford.

Promising Matthew Brayshaw performed well in the three kilometre under-13 boys' event, finishing an impressive second in nine minutes 28 seconds.

He was supported by colleagues Henry Dover (19th, 10m 06s), Charlie Regan (34th, 10m 50s) and Michael Knowles (37th, 10m 58s), to help CATs finish fourth.

In the under-13 girls' 3km race, Molly Redgrave continued to make steady progress after finishing 25th in 11m 49s.

She was supported by hard-working Masie King who clocked 12m 11s to finish 33rd and Emily White was 46th in 13m 15s.

In the under-15 boys' 4km, Ermeas Aferwerki came through strongly to produced his best race to date, finishing ninth in 11m 33s.

He was followed by determined runs from Sam Gardiner (14th, 11m 43s), Tom Palmer (21st, 11m 51s) and Alexander Cowie (54th, 14m 15s) as CATs finished third.

In the under-15 girls', a gritty run from Saffron Rose saw her finish 25th in 14mins.

Mary-Ann Deasy gave a good account of herself in the under-17 women’s 5k, finishing 14th in 17m 15s.

In the under-17 men’s 6k, Ben Miller was the first CATs athlete home in tenth after clocking 20m 15s.

The consistent Freddy Richardson was 26th in 22m 31s and Jonathan Lord was 34th in 27m 12s, in his first outing.

The senior women's 6km race saw the reliable Margaret Deasy home as first over-45 runner to finish 16th overall in 22m 52s.

In the under-20 category, Georgie Sturgeon gave a good account of herself to finish 57th in 27m 38s.

Two of CATs' under-20 runners performed well in the Senior Men's 8.5km race.

Joseph Patterson was a respectable ninth under-20 runner and 30th overall in 24m 27s.

And William Page produced a determined run to finish 37th overall and 11th under-20 runner to clock 24m 40s.
