Ipswich Town confirm Roy Keane's departure

Ipswich Town have confirmed the departure of under-fire boss Roy Keane.

The Irishman was sacked yesterday and found out via a phone call from Blues owner and chairman Marcus Evans.

Chief executive Simon Clegg confirmed the news at a press conference this morning, although he refused to “fuel any speculation” about a possible successor.

Former Wigan and Derby boss Paul Jewell is thought to be the red-hot favourite for the post and could be unveiled on Monday.

Keane leaves Ipswich three points above the relegation zone, languishing 19th after picking up just four points from a possible 27.
