FC CLACTON are still unbeaten in the Ridgeons League premier division after pocketing two draws in the opening week of the new season.

They kicked-off their premier division campaign with a hard-earned point at FA Vase finalists Wroxham last Saturday.

And they followed it up by drawing 1-1 at Hadleigh on Tuesday.

Skipper Sean Hillier put them in front, only for the hosts to notch a deserved equaliser.

WIVENHOE TOWN were unfortunate to be beaten 1-0 by Woodbridge Town, in a scrappy affair at Broad Lane.

Skipper Gavin Frost secured the points for the Woodpeckers, with ten minutes to go.

Dragons goalkeeper Adam Wilding had pushed Frost’s free-kick onto the woodwork in the first half.

However, Wivenhoe battled well in the second half and went close on several occasions but could not find an equaliser.

Striker Jamie Ricks scored both of STANWAY ROVERS’ goals in their 2-0 win at Haverhill Rovers.

It was Rovers’ first premier division win of the new season.

In division one, HALSTEAD TOWN'S first home game of the season ended in a disappointing 2-1 defeat on a rain-soaked night at Rosemary Lane.

As in many of their games so far, they failed to capitalise on their enterprising style of play.

Jamie Williams was instrumental up front and could have a hatful of goals.

However, the missed opportunities gave Melford the incentive.

And they took the lead through a fantastic 30-yard belter from Liam Cantleray on 22 minutes.

But Town are not a team to lie down easily and five minutes later, Jack Smith popped up to equalise from a corner.

The game developed into a stalemate after that and of the two teams, Halstead appeared the more likely to take the honours.

They had the ball the net through Williams only for the effort to be ruled off-side and then failed to capitalise on their hard work in the second half.

And Long Melford took advantage by scoring the all-important winner, to claim all three points.
