FC Clacton are primed and ready for action heading into tomorrow’s division one battle with Diss Town at the Rush Green Bowl.

The Seasiders have been riding high this week after booking their spot in the fourth round of the FA Vase, following last Saturday’s stunning 4-3 success against Holbeach United.

And they had been hoping to take that momentum into Tuesday’s Essex Senior Cup date with neighbours Wivenhoe Town at the Rush Green Bowl.

However, the derby was controversially postponed because of a water-logged pitch.

That means Clacton are chomping at the bit for tomorrow’s division one encounter and boss David Coyle told the Gazette: “We’re really looking forward to it, especially after the disappointment of Tuesday.

“We didn’t see any reason for the game to be called off.

“The pitch wasn’t perfect but people had worked their socks off to make sure there weren’t any problems and, as far as we were concerned, it didn’t even need to be inspected.

“Both teams were prepared to pay and both were amazed when the referee decided to postpone it.

“It was a real pity as we’d been desperate to play, after what happened on Saturday.

“And it was a double blow because the referee’s decision came so late that we didn’t have time to arrange an alternative training venue.”

Now Clacton switch their attention to Diss and they welcome back James Dunkley and Dan Smith, both of whom were unavailable for the Holbeach game.

Tommy Noble will have a late fitness test and Coyle said: “Diss have signed a couple of new players and should finish up there in the top five or six, so it’ll be a bit of a test.”

The other big event at the club this week was the draw for the fourth round of the Vase, which took place on Monday and has handed the Seasiders a trip to Dorset side Christchurch.

“It’s a long journey but I always said I’d like a big away day,” said Coyle.

“Christchurch are clearly a strong side in a strong league and they’re scoring plenty of goals.

“It should be a good day out for everyone and it’s an experience just to get this far in the competition.

“It’ll be a big task after a four-hour coach journey but it’s been a memorable ride and anything that happens now is a bonus.

“We’ll go there and enjoy it and if we’re good enough we’ll have a chance to win.”
