Heybridge Swifts may have shown the Ryman League premier division they are no whipping boys with their victory over Maidstone United last week, but boss Wayne Bond is realistic enough to know it is not the end of their problems.

Swifts remain bottom of the table, although victory tomorrow over Harrow Borough at Scraley Road could move them up.

And Bond is hoping his side can carry on the good work.

He told the Gazette: “The win last week was coming and now that we have that win we have to go on a run.

“However, we could not have a more difficult game against a team that are on a high and are probably the form team in the division.

“It is just one win and is not the end of our problems in what will be a long second half to the season.”

Bond said you would expect his team to be jumping aorund the changing room after last week’s shock win, but he said the players were quite calm as they knew such a result was due and deserved.

He praised the role of Ian Wiles at the back, with the popular Swifts star bringing an immediate strength to the defence.

He said: “He brought a lot of experience to my side when we went 1-0 up. We didn’t panic and without him we would have just put our foot through the ball.

“Reece Morgan did well too. I expect it from him as he is an exceptional talent and has only just turned 17 and performed beyond his years.

“I don’t have a bad team now. I hope to keep hold of all of the team.”

Bond has no injury worries and welcomes back Matt Cutchey and Craig Hudgell into the squad.
