What do new Witham Town manager and Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp have in common?

They have both told their players to go out and enjoy their football since taking charge of their respective clubs.

And in both cases their teams can’t stop winning.

Greaves is going for a hat-trick of wins since taking over at Spa Road and no-one will be more pleased than him if his new look Town squad topples current division one north leaders Waltham Abbey at home tomorrow.

But he is not getting carried away and is urging everyone at Spa Road to keep their feet firmly on the ground after two weeks of winning football has lifted the club off the foot of the division one north table.

He said: “The similarities of Harry Redknapp and myself are already being talked about by people at the club and some are even calling me ‘arry.

“But I’m a realist and while our recent wins over Northwood and Leyton have lifted Witham Town off the bottom, we are still in the bottom two and would be relegated if the season ended now.

“Two wins is great, but we’ve got to go out and make those two victories three, four, five and six more.

“When we reach mid-table we can start to breathe easier and if you are enjoying your football the more chance you have that success will follow.

“A win over Waltham Abbey would show everyone how far we’ve come in just a short time.”

Greaves introduced five new signings for the win over Leyton – striker Jon Watson (from Tiptree United), Rhys Darg (a former West Bromwich Albion apprentice), Ricky Modeste and Nicholas Muir (from Blue Square South leaders Chelmsford City), plus Michael Alaine (on loan from Coca Cola League Two club Dagenham and Redbridge.

“The club needed freshening up and after having a good look at the squad it was clear to me we needed some new players,” said Greaves.

“All five of them were on the pitch when we beat Leyton last week. We needed a win and it will be great if we get another one tomorrow.”
