FREE-SCORING WIVENHOE TOWN thrashed Blue Square South club Thurrock 5-0 to progress in the Essex Senior Cup.

The emphatic victory took the Dragons’ recent-scoring spree to 31 goals from their last five games.

Lee Underwood and Alessandro Campana both bagged braces and Sam Collins was also on target.

Manager Richard Carter said: “We have blown a team away from three leagues higher than us.

“I was disappointed to see they said they had played a weakened team, but they had nine players who featured against Bognor (in the Blue Square South) on Saturday.

“They should not be beaten 5-0 by us, but if it hadn’t have been for their goalkeeper, we would have ripped them to shreds.

“We need to keep proving people wrong and it is a bit disappointing not to get more positive feedback and bigger crowds.

“We only had 70 people against a Conference South side which is a bit disappointing, but the weather didn’t help. ”
