FC CLACTON climbed up to seventh in division one after easing to a 3-0 victory against Debenham LC.

Mark White and Matt Waters gave them a comfortable lead at the interval before Lee Barrett wrapped up the points after the break.

Boss David Coyle told the Gazette: “I wouldn’t say we were at our vintage best but it was still a good, professional performance.

“We played some decent stuff at times, worked hard and fully deserved our victory.

“We had the quality to score three goals and, had it not been for their goalkeeper and the woodwork, we might have won by one or two more.

“Defensively, we also did very well. We’d set out our stall to snuff out Stuart Jopling (the league’s top goal-scorer) and it worked a treat.”

White opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark after the Debenham goalkeeper failed to hold a shot by James Dunkley.

Waters doubled the advantage soon after from the penalty spot, after a foul on Barrett.

Barrett then grabbed the third in the second half, drilling home an angled shot to settle the contest.

After the disappointment of last week’s 3-0 reverse at Halstead, Coyle was delighted to make it two wins out of two, having also watched his side pip Felixstowe and Walton 3-2 in the Ridgeons League Cup on Tuesday.

“We were rubbish last weekend but the lads have responded well and got exactly what they deserved in the two matches since,” he said.

“They deserve every credit for turning things round.”
