STANWAY ROVERS will not reflect well on their trip to Whitton United in the Ridgeons League premier division.

Rovers travelled to a team who had not won a game in six outings and shipped 25 goals in their last four matches, including the 10-0 rout by Wivenhoe Town a week before, but finished up on the wrong end of a 4-2 scoreline on a day that will be best forgotten by everyone at the Hawthorns.

It was especially galling as Stanway led twice through Luke Callander and Ben Newson and also had Nathan Sharp sent off for violent conduct in the second half to compound their sense of misery.

Rovers joint manager Rob Bate said: “It was not a good result and not a good performance either.

“It wasn’t a case of them reacting to the Wivenhoe result, it was more because of us causing our own problems.

“We went 1-0 up and had enough chances to put it to bed, but we went in at 1-1 at half-time after we gave a poor goal away.

“Then we went 2-1 up and had chances to finish it off, but we gave away a terrible second goal and then had Sharpy sent off before going 3-2 down from a penalty at a separate incident.”
