IT was the turn of Lee Underwood to take the title of hat-trick hero as WIVENHOE TOWN beat King’s Lynn Reserves 5-1 at Broad Lane in the Ridgeons League premier division.

Underwood’s strike partner Charlie Ide had stolen the recent headlines with a trio of trebles from the Dragons’ previous three outings.

However, Ide only got one this time, while Underwood was on target three times himself as Wivenhoe extended their winning run to six games.

Ozie Foster netted the other goal for the hosts.

This wasn’t a vintage display, though, and the Dragons will need to pick their heels up if they are to maintain their push for title honours this year.

There were stages when they looked capable of pulling anyone at this level apart and scoring at will, but there were too many points during the 90 minutes when their foot was taken of the pedal.

King’s Lynn may not have been a strong enough team to take full advantage, but there will be others who aren’t as quick to turn down the invitation.

Dragons boss Richard Carter said: “We got there in the end, although I am disappointed we did not apply ourselves for the full 90 minutes.

“That’s not good enough, but it was another good result and there were some good goals.

“I’ve got to be happy, but we could have had seven or eight.”
