Braintree Town striker James Baker has left Cressing Road.

Baker, who turned down a new contract from Braintree, has been snapped up by fellow Blue Square South side Eastleigh.

Iron will now be due compensation, as Baker is under the age of 24.

His deaprture has left boss Lee Patterson fuming, and although he was loathe to comment on Baker's decision, he made it clear it was not one he was too chuffed about.

He told the Gazette: "We offered James an improved contract which he declined.

"We are awaiting compensation and I will make my comments on how he has conducted himself after the tribunal has been settled."

Baker was on the transfer list last summer, but ended up staying with Iron for another season.

Braintree boss George Borg revealed he turned down a £3,000 bid for the player before last season.

But this time there was no stopping Baker's departure.
