DAVID Hawes netted for the fourth successive game but Witham town still lost 4-2 at Arlesey Town.

Hawes converted well following a very good team move and the outstanding Mitchell Lowes rifled in a goal from a narrow angle.

At 2-2, it looked as though Witham might claim at least a point from the game.

However, two goals in the closing stages gave Arlesey victory.

Caretaker manager Tony Last said: "We were outstanding in the first half but when we came back to 2-2, we seemed to switch off.

"We were against a very strong wind in the first half but our goalkeeper Rhys Madden was absolutely brilliant. But we didn't play as well in the second half and the weather conditions definitely had an impact on the game."

Last was left unhappy with the referee's performance, after Town were denied what he felt were two clear penalties.

"In my opinion, the referee was very poor," said Last. "I thought we should have had two penalties in the second half.

"David Hawes looked like he was hauled down in the box and there was also a handball.

"I didn't think he was consistent but when I asked him why he made the decisions he did, he didn't want to give me an answer."
