A PRETTY dire game, played in a fierce wind, saw Ramsgate deserving the points from their 2-0 Ryman League premier division defeat of Heybridge Swifts at Scraley Road.

The visitors created the only real chances of the game and, with an ever-increasing injury list - which now looks to include Ian Wiles long-term - it is all hands to the pump for Swifts.

Some players are perhaps not 100 per cent but may need to return quicker than they might otherwise do to help out the youngsters.

Neither side could take an early hold on this game in a fierce wind, as no noticeable pattern of play emerged.

Ramsgate were uncompromising and tough, playing a basic style that ended with them taking maximum spoils.

Both central defences were strong - Wiles and Stafford Browne for Swifts - and the best chance of the half for Haybridge came as Nathan Clarke's free-kick was headed on by Sean Marks, but Gary Burrell was unable to take advantage.

The second half was livelier, and Ramsgate went ahead on 54 minutes after Swifts skipper Wiles had left the pitch injured and Ramsgate's Nick Davis prodded home after a goalmouth scramble.

Swifts earned a series of corners but did not force Shaun Alliston in the Ramsgate goal into a save until the dying minutes.

However, Stuart Vahid sealed the spoils late in the game for the visitors, as the Swifts defence opened up and he strode through to score with ease.
