HALSTEAD TOWN manager Jody Brown felt his side were always in control against Downham Town, following their 2-0 success at Rosemary Lane.

The win, which came courtesy of a brace from Chris Bryan, leaves Halstead seven points off third-placed Diss Town in Ridgeons League division one.

And although he admitted his side were not at their best, Brown believes they were worthy winners.

He said: "It was good to get back out there after a two-week lay-off.

"The performance wasn't a polished one but the result was never in doubt.

"There were one or two inspirational performances and that was the key.

"We need to improve on that and we need key players to keep their standards very high."
