BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT fought back from behind to put another point on the board, in their quest for a play-off spot.

James Webster’s side drew 1-1 in Saturday’s Ryman League division north contest at home to Haringey Borough.

The sides met in a rearranged match on Tuesday night, after which the spoils were shared from a 2-2 draw.

And they proved evenly matched in the return game at North Road, with Charlie Durling – heavily praised by Webster in the Gazette last week – heading a 70th-minute leveller for the R’s.

The youngster netted from Jake Turner’s corner, after Dean Fenton had fired Haringey in front on 23 minutes.

Regent pushed for a winner in the latter stages and another of their young guns, Jake Phillips, smashed a volley against the right-hand post, with keeper Harry Palmer stranded.

In the end, they had to be content with a point but Webster’s men are still handily placed in seventh spot – just two points behind fifth-placed AFC Hornchurch.

HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS played the first of two quick-fire games against Redbridge.

The sides are set to meet in the Essex Senior Cup semi-final at Scraley Road on Tuesday night.

However, there were important north division points up for the grabs in their first meeting, at the Oakside Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

And they went the way of Redbridge, with the only goal in their 1-0 victory coming from Charlie Portway after 71 minutes.

The visitors had a couple of penalty appeals waved away in a hard-fought game of few chances.

WITHAM TOWN, still not assured of north division safety, secured an important 2-0 victory at home to Tilbury.

Michael Osei gave them a seventh-minute lead and Lewis Payne made it two on 26.

MALDON & TIPTREE had a tough match at home to high-flying Harlow Town and drew 1-1.

Alex Read gave the Hawks a 37th-minute lead before Darren McQueen popped up with a leveller midway through the second half, at Park Drive.

However, the Jammers were left kicking themselves after missing another penalty – a recurring problem in recent weeks – in the latter stages.

Darren Mills fired the spot-kick over the bar.
