Maldon and Tiptree took the derby honours as a late strike saw them seal the win at Heybridge Swifts.

The Ryman League division north encounter at Scraley Road finished 2-1 in the visitors’ favour as Charley Edge’s goal on 90 minutes gave them all three points.

Both sides came out of the traps quickly as they looked to stamp their authority on the game.

The home side almost took the lead when Jack Barham got the ball into George Doyle and his shot from the edge of the box had keeper Shaun Phillips beaten but his effort hit the post.

There was another chance for Heybridge when Edge put his own keeper under pressure with a lofted back pass that Phillips had to head clear.

The ball fell to Gorge Cole but his shot was just deflected wide by Billy Roast.

Swifts’ Barham then made a run into the area and was jumped on by the Jammers’ Lewis Probert and the referee had no choice but to point to the spot.

Jamie Guy, who missed a penalty in Heybridge’s 1-0 defeat to Brightlingsea last week, stepped up and made no mistake to put Swifts in front on 33 minutes.

Sam Ling almost made it 2-0 for Swifts but his shot from 20 yards narrowly missed the target.

But it was Maldon who then had a chance to get back on level terms when they were awarded a penalty of their own when Kieran Monlouis went down under a strong challenge from Liam Thomas.

Matt Lock fired in the spot-kick but Swifts keeper Danny Sambridge guessed correctly, diving to the right and punching the ball clear.

But, the Jammers did pull it level in the second half.

Monlouis was given space on the edge of the area and fired in a low shot, just out of reach of a diving Sambridge, into the left corner on 76 minutes.

With time running out, Maldon snatched the lead when Edge poked the ball home following a goalmouth scramble after a corner on 90 minutes.

Brightlingsea Regent were involved in a six-goal thriller at Wroxham.

They were held to a 3-3 draw at Trafford Park.

Wroxham took the lead on 13 minutes with the first attack when Ashley Jarvis opened the scoring.

But the lead didn’t last long as, nine minutes later, Ricky Griggs fired home to make it 1-1.

Regent made a bright start after the half-time break.

Phil Kelly gave the visitors the lead on 52 minutes after heading home from a corner.

But, eight minutes later, it was all square again as Wroxham’s Jack Guyton made it 2-2.

Kelly, however, put Regent back in front with a powerful strike into the top corner from the edge of the box on 70 minutes.

However, eight minutes later, Nathan Stone made it 3-3 as Wroxham pulled it back again to secure a share of the spoils.

Witham Town lost out 2-0 at AFC Hornchurch.

There were early chances for both sides as David Knight and George Purcell went close for the home side and Lewis Francis for Witham.

The home side took the lead just after the break.

Joey May’s corner was pulled back for Purcell to hit his shot home on 47 minutes.

Harry Palmer then made a fantastic save from Elliott Styles ten-yard strike to keep Witham in the game on 61 minutes.

However, Hornchurch doubled their advantage on 73 minutes when Junior Luke made it 2-0.
