JAMIE Shaw was the hat-trick hero as Stanway Rovers notched their eighth successive Thurlow Nunn League victory, winning 4-2 at FC Clacton.

The premier division high-fliers were two-up at the break before Aaron Condon halved the deficit from the spot, after a foul on Calum Patterson.

Shaw quickly added a spectacular third before Condon scored again, to give Clacton hope.

However, Jordan Palmer produced a clinical finish seconds later to make it 4-2.

Stanway’s success lifted them to third in the table as they leapfrogged Godmanchester Rovers.

Angelo Harrop’s side got the start they wanted after scoring in the first quarter of an hour.

Palmer tried his luck with a low shot from the left that keeper Joe Fowler was unable to hold.

The ball trickled invitingly for Shaw, who gobbled up the chance and netted from close range.

Shaw then grabbed the second after capitalising on more indecision in the home defence.

The next goal was always going to be vital and it went to the Seasiders, early in the second half.

Patterson was pulled down in the box and skipper Condon made no mistake from the spot, powering a rising shot past goalkeeper Nick Punter.

Clacton had their tails up but any hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed by Shaw.

The ex-West Bergholt striker tried his luck with a lobbed effort from distance and saw his perfectly-weighted effort drop into the net.

Condon scored again with a great shot from wide on the right but Palmer immediately dashed Clacton’s hopes with a clinical finish, connecting with a ball in from the right.

Elsewhere, first division leaders WIVENHOE TOWN maintained their proud unbeaten record with a 6-0 victory at BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES.

Jamie Baker lobbed the goalkeeper before Ray Turner headed home Jake Plane’s corner.

Reece Keating turned in a low cross, Turner added his second and Hasan Ayten’s corner went straight in for 5-0.

Joe Heron’s smart finish completed the scoring.
