Colchester United head coach John McGreal highlighted the desire and work-rate of his side after they beat Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 to get back to winning ways in League Two.
George Elokobi's excellent 13th-minute strike proved enough to give the U's victory at the Weston Homes Community Stadium and move them into the play-off positions.
McGreal said: “You can’t fault our boys and to a man, I thought they were excellent.
“That was a little bit of our incentive and I thought to a man the desire, the application and the work-rate from us was excellent.
“Wycombe have been everywhere this season – they’ve been in the top seven, the FA Cup and the Checkatrade Trophy and we knew it was going to be a tough game because both teams could go into the play-offs tonight.
"We tweaked our shape knowing that it was going to be incessant and that it would be coming in from all angles and they do that really well.
"We had to think of the best way to win a game of football and get back into the top seven and we've tweaked it and I thought we were fantastic."
McGreal had words of praise for match-winner Elokobi, who scored a sensational goal and also made a crucial goal-line clearance from Paris Cowan-Hall, in the second half.
McGreal said: “It was an unbelievable strike from George and it came from nowhere.
“We know he’s got a lovely left foot but we all know that he can hit them and he’s found the top corner with a great goal.
“He deserves all the praise he gets and I have to give young Cameron James a mention – what a performance on his first start.
“He played against a high-profile centre-forward in Ade Akinfnewa and I thought he was absolutely fantastic."
