Colchester United skipper Luke Prosser is sweating on the results of a scan to discover the full extent of his knee injury.

The experienced defender injured his right knee in the warm-up prior to the U’s 3-0 defeat at home to Leyton Orient, last weekend.

It was only the second League Two game Prosser has missed for Colchester since joining them on a free transfer from Essex neighbours Southend United, last summer.

Prosser underwent a scan on Monday and is now facing an anxious wait to learn the extent of it, ahead of back-to-back away games for the U’s.

Prosser told the Daily Gazette: “My knee seemed to give way in the warm-up when we were doing our drills.

“I wanted to carry on with the warm-up but I ran into the physio Mr Flynn to tell him that I thought I might not be able to continue.

“I desperately wanted to play like I do in every game but I wouldn’t have done anyone any favours whatsoever had I tried to continue.

“At the moment, there’s a bit of fluid on the knee and when that goes down, we’ll probably get a better indication as to the extent of it.”

Prosser was forced to watch from the sidelines as Colchester slumped to their heaviest league defeat of the season, last weekend.

The Orient defeat has left the U’s just a point and a place above the League Two relegation zone, following a run of nine matches without a win in League Two.

But as they prepare for back-to-back away games against Yeovil Town and Cheltenham Town, skipper Prosser says they must look forward.

“It was obviously a very frustrating afternoon for everyone but we have to put it to bed now and look forward to our next game now and focus on getting three points,” added Prosser.

“It’s always the same whenever you’re not playing – you just want to go out there and do your bit.

“It was a disappointing result for us against Leyton Orient but we have to keep our heads up and go again.

“We have two away games in quick succession now and hopefully we can get a win at Yeovil on Saturday and then build from there.

“Hopefully we can get two good results and then go into our next home game against Crewe Alexandra with a lot of confidence.

“It’s not easy at times but times like these draw you closer as a squad and there’s still a strong team spirit.”
