Colchester United are out of the Essex Senior Cup after losing 4-3 at Blue Square Bet South side AFC Hornchurch.
A U's team featuring the likes of Andy Bond, Matt Heath, Ben Coker and new loan signing George Porter bowed out of the county competition at the quarter-final stage.
Goals from Freddie Ladapo, Alex Gilbey and an own goal by the Urchins' Reiss Noel were not enough to prevent Colchester from being eliminated from the competition.
Colchester will check on the fitness of winger Jack Compton, who limped out of the tie in the first half.

The new players do not have a pedigree that suggests that are likely to "turn things around" for us, anwyway.
I'm expecting yet another frustrating afternoon on Saturday at WHCS but also hoping upon hope that I'm wrong!

IT IS'NT.
There's been precious little success this season in league 1 or any of the major cup competitions.
I stand by my assessment of "dark and ininspiring times".
And yes, Baz, how much we need those experienced and proven players....no sign of 'em so far - nor any shifting of blue-and-white deadwood, such as Wordsworth, Henderson, Morrison, Bond, Wilson, etc etc........

Let's get this in proportion. Last night two other local clubs were knocked out of their county cups by lower-league opponents: Chelmsford City and Ipswich Town. So we are not alone. See the E A D T website for details. Up the U's.
Ipswich have started to turn things around and are in the Championship.
While Colchester are out of everything except a relegation battle.
At the moment we couldn't beat anything, including an egg. We're just a bad yolk!!!!!

Leo Messi could have played in this fixture and might have under performed. The senior players are used to nurse them through injury, get them match fit and practice only.
Infact, if I remember, the final last season was remembered for Cousins and his solo great performance (which the clan Negative all forget) and a very poor performance by Mr O'Toole (which clan negative also forget).

Being put out of cups by Chelmsford City and Hornchurch is just not good enough.
Add Yeovil and Northampton into the mix and that's a list that should cause concern.
The club need cup runs to keep the fans interested and make some much needed cash.

This could happen to the U's too. I don't say it will, but things are on a knife-edge, and a couple of wins could transform our situation. While there's life there's hope. I just hope we get John White back soon, for he is key to a more solid defence.

I was just trying to saying that it would have been nice to have something to cheer about for a change. I would much rather we stayed up this season but something like doing well in a cup can get the team playing well again.

Apart from giving the usual clan negative some extra ammo, this result means nothing. Leo Messi could have played in this fixture and might have under performed. So far, has there been anything this season to be positive about ? (apart from John Ward going). You can hardly blame people for being so negative when there has been little or no hope in sight!!!

So if beating you ends up being the season highlight (though I won't lie, it was a fantastic day), May is going to feel rather flat.
