Colchester United accept Steve Bradshaw's resignation

THE Chief Executive of Colchester United has resigned after being arrested for drink-driving.

Steve Bradshaw, who took over the role just 12 months ago, was driving back to Clacton after a club Christmas party when he had a minor accident in Bradfield.

Police were called and routinely breathalysed the 43-year-old on December 14, where they discovered he was over the legal limit.

Mr Bradshaw has apologised for the “error of judgement” and immediately tendered his resignation.

This was yesterday accepted by the chairman of the club, Robbie Cowling.

Sorry to see Steve go because he worked hard for the local sports community trust over the last 20 or so years. However, to resign was the right decision.

Many still excessively drink and then recklessly drive. When will people realise drinking and driving do not go together!

Livelihoods are lost through this very irresponsible attitude! But more importantly LIVES are lost....and some still go out and do it. They believe it won't ever happen to them!

Lets hope others learn from Steve's downfall.

Disappointing news - another irresponsible person. His actions could cost his own life or that of others.
I have no sympathy for him

I dont think any sober person thinks it's a good idea to drink and drive, have a few drinks though any thing is possible.

There's no excuse for drink driving but Steve will be a great loss to Colchester United. A top bloke and fantastic at his job !!

Why do people think they can drive after drinking, it should be a zero alcohol / blood policy. If I drive I never drink.

At least SB did the right thing, after getting caught..

Yes people believe they can do any of these things hence why they come unstuck, teenage boys for example have a habit of drowning in rivers after a drunken night out, girls believe they wont get pregnant and even if they do what the heck

How many people are on prescription drugs, and still driving? You know, the ones that warn against driving. And how many of those are on this forum, speaking out against drink and driving?

Steve Bradshaw committed a serious crime, and he will be punished for it when the case comes to court. Meanwhile he has done the honourable thing by promptly resigning from his job. I hope he finds something else soon, where he can start afresh. He would never make a politician though. Think of the prominent local politicians who have been convicted of drink-driving, running over a policeman's foot, etc - and who shamelessly continue telling the rest of us what to do.
