U's beaten by late penalty

Colchester United's first game at the Weston Homes Community Stadium ended in a 2-1 defeat.

A late David Lopez penalty, awarded after youngster James Hammond had been adjudged to have fouled in the area, gave Spanish club Athletic Bilbao victory in the ramp-up friendly.

The game was often a bad tempered affair, with Murillo receiving his marching orders on the hour after tangling with the U's Kem Izzet.

The impressive Aduriz had earlier given Bilbao the lead.

But Scott Vernon cancelled the strike out 11 minutes before the break, converting from the penalty spot after Aldekoaotalora had handled Mark Yeates' rasping drive.

It looked as though Colchester would seal a draw against the La Liga side, but Lopez's late spot-kick won it for Bilbao.

Colchester manager Geraint Williams said: "It was a good workout for us.

"The main thing for us is Hartlepool on Saturday but Athletic Bilbao were good opposition for us."

A good workout said Williams, you can get that in a gym! Obviously somewhere Geraint is unfamiliar with. The Us did not step up to meet the opposition.

Anyway, so much for a travel plan! What Travel Plan? If this is how Col U plan to manage supporters getting to the ground then god help us and god help the Us

I think you can safely say that the only person showing any balls in the second half last night was the streaker.

You should change you name to, "I say it as I see it OK?". Or just plain "My opinion?", will do! I think you should keep the ? though, it suits you!

I agree with old fan wholeheartedly.

It took just 5 minutes to get there and back with the FREE shuttle bus service. Perhaps his version of a travel plan involves being picked up and dropped off directly ouside his house in a luxury car driven by an F1 driver?
