Colchester United manager Kevin Keen says he will wait until the busy festive programme is over before deciding on whether or not to add to his coaching team.

David Wright has already been appointed as Keen’s assistant and there could be further additions to the U’s first-team backroom staff, in the coming weeks.

However, Keen says he will give the matter more thought once Colchester have played their game at Oldham Athletic, on Saturday.

Keen said: “It’s something going forward again.

“I want to get the Christmas and New Year games out of the way first as when we get into January, it’s pretty much Saturday-Saturday-Saturday.

“There are lots of little ideas in my head, some concerning that and some concerning other ways that we may be able to do things.”

Keen has admitted he also has decisions to make on the goalkeeper front, following Jamie Jones’ return to parent club Preston North End following the completion of his loan spell.

Elliot Parish has started Colchester’s last two matches and Keen said he was impressed with his performance in their 1-0 defeat at Gillingham, on Monday.

“We will have to watch this space with the goalkeeper situation,” said Keen.

“Decisions have got to be made but I thought Elliot Parish was very good (against Gillingham).

“He looked comfortable and he had no chance with the goal.

“He made some good saves and he played a big part in the team performance.”

Keen adopted a 4-4-2 formation for the Gillingham game, a departure from the 4-2-3-1 system that Colchester have adopted for the majority of the season.

Chris Porter and Marvin Sordell were paired together up front and although the U’s failed to score, boss Keen felt there were promising signs.

He added: “I’ve said to the boys that whichever formation we play, we go and try and play to win.

“We go to win football matches, whether it’s two strikers or 4-2-3-1 which I think they’ve been playing for most of the season.

“I have to say that the two strikers were very good (against Gillingham) - I think they can be lethal for any team in this league.

“We’ve played two good matches but unfortunately come away without the points and as manager, I have to look at that and we have to find a way to win football matches.”
