He is one of the most recognisable football fans in the country.

And Colchester United have been told they will receive a special welcome from Wealdstone Football Club’s most famous supporter tomorrow.

Gordon Hill - known as the Wealdstone Raider - become a viral sensation after footage of him heckling Whitehawk FC supporters at a match back in March, 2013 was posted on video-sharing website YouTube.

With catchy phrases like “You want some?” and “You’ve got no fans”, the 33-second clip grew in popularity and propelled the 49-year-old builder to unlikely stardom.

It even led to Hill releasing a charity single called Got No Fans, which charted at number five.

He is still mobbed by selfie and autograph-hunters, raising thousands for charity in the process.

“At first, it was all a bit overwhelming but it’s like anything really, you have to go with it,” Hill told the Daily Gazette.

“When it first happened, I thought the video would get maybe 1,000 views.

“Then it went to 10,000 and now we’re at more than 100,000 and it’s still going.

“The strangest thing is that one minute it’ll be all quiet and then the next thing it will be crazy.

“I’ve never really thought of myself as a celebrity - my family and mates all think it’s amazing.

“But I look at it all as a privilege.

“It’s helped to promote Wealdstone Football Club, which is the most amazing thing for me.

“I think it’s so far helped to raise over £100,000 for charities such as Great Ormond Street Hospital, as well as Autism Concern in Northamptonshire and the Wealdstone FC youth set-up, so it’s been great.

“I’ve done things like charity events and appearances at football matches.

“I’ve had a few strange requests - when I was in a nightclub, one bird asked me to autograph her bottom!

“If people want a selfie or an autograph that’s great but I ask them to make a contribution to charity.

“It doesn’t have to be at the time or any particular amount - I leave it up to them to decide.”

Hill will of course be at tomorrow’s big FA Cup first-round tie - and thinks Grosvenor Vale will be a shock to the system for the U’s.

“I can’t wait for the game - it’s a big day for us and I think the Colchester fans will enjoy coming to us,” added Hill, who has been supporting Wealdstone for 34 years.

“I’ll have my usual routine of having a couple of pints with my mates and then watching the match.

“It’s probably one of the biggest games that we’ve had at our place for a while.

“I think Colchester will have a bit of a culture shock, coming to our tiny ground.”

The surroundings might be unfamiliar to the U's this weekend but given his celebrity status, it's unlikely the Wealdstone Raider will be.
