Colchester United manager Tony Humes praised his side’s committed display after they ran out 2-0 winners at Peterborough United.

The U’s are now a point adrift of safety, after second-half goals from Freddie Sears and Elliott Hewitt gave them an important victory over Posh at London Road.

It was an impressive all-round team display from Colchester, who have now kept a clean sheet in each of their last three league away matches.

Humes said: “We’re delighted with the win. “We had a good shape about us and a great commitment from the players.

“Everybody did their own individual jobs by working to the maximum and we got our rewards in the end.

“It’s a good start to the second half of the season and now we have to make sure that we build on it.

“It was tough to start with and we expected to be under the cosh a little bit at the start of the game.

“We withstood a bit of pressure for the first 25 minutes and stood strong and showed great character.

“After that, I think it was a pretty even game.

“Peterborough were chasing the game and had a few chances but we were controlled in possession.

“We said all along that to stay in the game, you’ve always got a chance.”
